Our Heritage
What is Besa?Çfarë është Besa?
Besa is an Albanian cultural concept meaning "pledge of honor" or "word of honor." It represents a sacred, unbreakable promise that has been central to Albanian identity for centuries.
During World War II, Albanians used Besa to protect and shelter Jewish refugees, treating them as honored guests and family. This principle of protecting those in need, regardless of religion or background, exemplifies the heart of Albanian hospitality.
Our festival celebrates this tradition of honor, community, and the unbreakable bonds that connect Albanians around the world.
“Besa is stronger than stone.”
